To ensure that the initiative is both efficient and collaborative, OMOP research will be conducted through a two-tiered approach. The OMOP Research Core, comprised of a set of research institutions chosen through a competitive process, will design and manage a core set of experiments. The partnership will also encourage the participation of the broader scientific community through an Extended Consortium.
On April 22, 2010 we conducted a web meeting that included an update from the OMOP Research team about the progress to date, and a discussion about the opportunities for participating in the research plan as part of the OMOP Extended Consortium.

The Extended Consortium will allow researchers outside the Research Core to conduct complementary research on their own environment and share feedback, findings and results. OMOP is sharing tools and findings from its current research so that researchers may apply these tools to thier databases and environment. The research tools include health outcomes of interest definitions, data models, database evaluation and quality-assurance tools, and analytical programs.
Become a part of the OMOP Extended Consortium to use and improve upon the currents tools and methods and share your findings and perspectives with the community:
The OMOP Extended Consortium has been established to engage interested groups from industry, government, academia, payers, healthcare organizations, and other stakeholders, to voluntarily participate in the methodological research to inform the appropriate use of observational data for active drug safety surveillance. OMOP Extended Consortium participants work on a voluntarily basis and will be recognized as part of the OMOP research community.
If you are interested in becoming an OMOP Extended Consortium participant and joining us to advance the science of active surveillance:
1. Download and review the participation guidelines and procedures so you may be given access to the community dialogue. (PREREQUISITE: You need to be an OMOP web site subscriber to acquire the additional Extended Consortium forums)
2. If you would like to have your name / organization listed in the OMOP Extended Consortium community, please complete the OMOP Web disclosure form.
If you have any questions, please contact OMOP.
